Yin Restorative Evenings

In Chinese medicine, Yin is the essence of rest, restoration, and nourishment. It is the cool, fluid, and receptive energy that supports our body’s deepest reserves — governing the blood, tissues, and hormonal balance. In a world that often prioritizes movement, productivity, and activity (Yang), it is easy to neglect or take time to truly nourish our Yin. During our Yin Restorative Evenings we remind ourselves that slowing down, connecting with our body, breath and the present through practices like movement and breathing exercises, we invite in the nurturing and healing Yin energy.

In Chinese medicine, Yin is the essence of rest, restoration, and nourishment. It is the cool, fluid, and receptive energy that supports our body’s deepest reserves — governing the blood, tissues, and hormonal balance. When our Yin is depleted, we may experience dryness, insomnia, anxiety, hormonal imbalances, fatigue, or a sense of being ungrounded.

In a world that often prioritizes movement, productivity, and activity (Yang), it is easy to neglect or take time to truly nourish our Yin. Especially for women this is important, as we lose a lot of our Yin during menstruation due to Blood and fluids being lost. So taking the time to nourish our Yin after menstruation is important in supporting our well-being.

Nourish Your Yin Through A Restorative Practice

During these evenings, we are practicing (Womb) meditation, grounding breathing techniques, affirmations, visualizations and intentional slow movements to connect with the body’s natural ability to restore and replenish her/himself. Rooted in stillness and deep relaxation, this practice encourages the nervous system to shift into a parasympathetic state, promoting rest, digestion, and healing - and nourishing our Yin.

This is not Yin Yoga necessarily, but a practice to connect with our Yin energy, our Womb, body and the Earth through grounding practices. Yoga (in its origins) is a spiritual, philosophical, and physical discipline that emerged in India. Rooted in the Vedic traditions and later systematized in texts like the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali (circa 2nd century BCE-5th century CE), yoga was originally a practice aimed at self-realization, inner peace, and liberation (moksha). While yoga practiced in the west can often be associated with physical postures (asanas), the origins of yoga show (just like Chinese Medicine) that it is a holistic system designed to harmonize body, mind, and spirit.

Over time, yoga has transformed into a global movement, with various styles emerging — Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Kundalini, and many others. The practice of yoga goes far beyond just movement (which is a part of the practice though), but it is ultimately a practice of self-discovery, mindfulness, and inner transformation. In essence, yoga is not just about movement; it is a philosophy, a way of life, and a journey inward.

This Yin Restorative Evening is a space dedicated to practicing these principles as well as drawing upon the knowledge and wisdom that Chinese medicine teaches me (I see a lot of overlapping values and practices originating in both).

During this evening, we create a safe place where you get to fully be, ground, slow down, connect with yourself deeply, tune into your inner world & Mother Earth, and nourish & be nourished by our Yin energy.  Slow movements help release physical tension, improve circulation, and regulate the flow of Qi and Blood. Meditation and breathwork (pranayama) calm the mind, deepen the breath, and enhance the body's ability to absorb and store energy.

We will practice:

  • Intuitive & conscious movements

  • Self acupressure to connect with your energy system and body more deeply

  • Pranayama/breathing exercises & meditation

  • Cultivating a present & compassionate connection to your body-womb-mind-spirit

  • Connecting with others (if you wish) & intentional moments of sharing

  • Variety of different things like pulling cards, lighting candles, and other gentle activities

This evening is dedicated to you and your practice to practice intentional self care.

Join our weekly Yin restorative practice in Amsterdam

By practicing in the evening, when the body's Yin energy is naturally dominant, this practice supports deeper sleep, inner balance, and emotional well-being. All you have to do is show up. There are mats, cushions and tea available. We will hold a safe container of warmth and care.

During these evening we can take a moment to slow down and connect presently with ourselves, which we often forget to do in such a fast paced world.

Join me and others every week at my practice Essence of Juji in Amsterdam for a Yin-nourishing evening.
